It was the final age — the old world was dying, and the new world was struggling to be born. Every day Ragnarok drew closer, the end of the world heralded by churning seas and raging skies. The gods grew rotten and weak, their greedy eyes sunken into rotting skulls. The great heroes were reduced to grist in the mill of war. It was the final age before all things ended, and as the world-tree rotted, everyone knew … Now is the time of monsters.
The protagonists of our story (if you could even call them that) are the greatest warriors this world has ever seen. Assassins from the underworld, god-thieves and immortal knights, elfin berserkers and the troll king beneath the mountain. In a time when violence is constant and at such a massive scale, the only way to survive is to cheat death herself

In The Time Of Monsters is a tactical combat TTRPG about bloodsoaked heroes vying for power at the end of the world. It's inspired by Norse Mythology, Lancer, and Dungeons & Dragons 4th Edition. If you're looking to tell dramatic fables about tragic warriors on a grid while rolling dice and getting big numbers, this is the game for you.

In The Time Of Monsters is 60+ pages and more than 15,000 words. It features 8 classes and two dozen statblocks for everything from a common warrior to the serpent itself. The classes available are:

  • The God's Usurper, who stole Thor's hammer and fled.
  • The Troll Beneath The Mountain, who holds up the world.
  • The Ice Witch, child of Loki herself.
  • The Traitor Valkyrie, who left her gods in anguish.
  • The Apocalypse Seer, who can see the fate of the world to come.
  • The Helkin Assassin, agent of death's will.
  • The Elfin Outcast, banished from Alfheim and cursed to never die.
  • The Knight Of Nimue, a faraway warrior who serves a destiny greater than their own.

FASCISTS ARE NOT WELCOME HERE

This is a critical and nuanced reflection on Norse Mythology by a trans disabled writer. This game is anti-fascism and explicitly rejects Nazism in everything it does. Fascists are not welcome here.

Almost perfect, absolutely fit for purpose, and a great value
Size: Standard--black
These are really, really close to being five stars, but because of my OCD tendencies when it comes to things being true and level, I can only go four. The way these mounts are made, speakers rest inside and on the inner surface of the L-shaped adjustable side brackets, and not on the large metal plate between them. Leveling on the fore-and-aft plane can easily be handled via the adjustment nut on the bottom of the bracket. But there is no provision for side-to-side leveling, so if the manufacturing of the side brackets is not within tolerance, you'll wind up with a speaker that's ever-so-slightly wonky...which is the case with ONE of my mounts. The bubble is still between the lines, but it's kissing the left line. Most would not care about this, and I'm not too bummed about it, but I am able to see that much out-of-true with the naked eye. It's not enough to pursue any kind of remediation, because the value on these really is awfully good. They are solidly built, easy to install, and easy to adjust. The manufacturer is apparently improving the product as they go based on feedback, as some issues that have vexed other owners have not been a problem for me, such as the wall plates being or coming loose (the design now ensures they stay put once pushed back to the wall), or the adjustment nut and bolt rotating freely and not staying tight (the ones on mine are great and function as intended). For the price, these are really hard to beat, and I have a feeling all the mounts like this with the different oddly-named brands are made in the same factory. That being the case, get the cheapest ones, and the day I bought mine, these were those.

Solid and easy to install
Size: Standard--black
These are nice, solid wall mounts. They assembled quickly and easily, and they can hold larger bookshelf speakers like my Cambridge Soundworks M60s. Adjusting the plate to match speaker size is pretty easy, and they seem to grip the speaker tight enough that they won't fall off. The tilt option is very useful and a good feature when speakers are mounted high and need to tilt down toward the listener. Just remember to tighten the bolt on the bottom once you've positioned it where you want it. I would definitely recommend these to anyone looking for solid, well priced speaker mounts.

Sturdy solution
Size: Standard--black
I needed a way to mount rear speakers and this was the solution. They're sturdy and adjustable to fit reasonably sized speakers. They also pivot up and down and swivel so really perfect.

Nice unit
Set name: 5.1 Receiver
I'm really happy with this receiver even though I don't have any speakers hooked up to it. Not using it for a speaker setup might sound like a waste of a product to some people but honestly I'm finding plenty of value in it with it's other features. The main reason I looked into getting a receiver was so I could have multiple hdmi devices hooked up to my monitor. I looked into hdmi hubs but there are a couple reasons why I've chosen a receiver instead. 1. Reliability and ease of use. Ok, so like I said I use a monitor in my room, not a tv. Monitors don't have remotes so anytime I want to change the volume or hdmi input I have to do it manually. It's a 32 inch monitor about 3 feet to the side of my bed and it's a nice arms stretch to do so. Not a big deal and while there are plenty of hdmi hubs that offer remote changing or automatic changing I worry about the reliability of those devices. There are plenty of reviews that state their hubs stop working after some months or the automatic hdmi switching starts changing inputs randomly or getting black screens and such. I just didn't want to hassle with things like that. 2. Bluetooth connectivity. This was another feature that I was looking into. Again, there are separate devices that offer this but just like hdmi hubs you will find plenty of reliability concerns. On top of that there's audio lag and previously when I bought a bluetooth transmitter I had to return it for that reason. Nice thing about this receiver is there is an adjustment for the audio to increase or decrease the audio timing but luckily it isn't an issue and the audio seems to be timed perfectly with my bluetooth headphones. It pairs up quickly too. I haven't tried the 4k upscaling with this receiver because I use a 1440p monitor but it's nice to know that it's there. Maybe in the future I will find a use for it. There's also some neat audio presets for things like movies, music and gaming. It's actually a pretty extensive list. I suppose I should also mention that each hdmi input can be named to your liking for a nice customization feel so when you flip through them you know exactly what's connected to that input. You can even use the hdmi ports when the unit is in standby mode but you won't be able to use the bluetooth connectivity. In the end I think this was a good purchase. It's priced reasonably and I'm getting good use out of it. Sound quality is great and the customizable features are a definite plus. More expensive than getting an hdmi hub and bluetooth transmitter but I think the reliability and extra features make up for this.
