Whatever the case, these anodized black laser-etched aluminum shift lever extensions will have you shifting gears in comfort and style. Includes a "locating jam nut" to help you find the perfect sweet spot for your particular needs. This shift lever extension will give you a bit more than a 4" extension, and the bend in it — coupled with the jam nut allows you to position the knob to your liking.
The extension does add about 20% to the overall length of the shift lever which will naturally increase the already relatively sloppy VW van shifter “feel” by about 20%. So, if you have a Vanagon, check out our Swift Shift Kit which restores the shifter “feel” while still providing the added comfort and convenience of the closer, repositioned shift knob.
Fit notes
• This extension has a 14mm thread diameter that fits most 1984-91 Vanagon shift knobs. Before ordering, please inspect your shift knob and ensure the threads are visible right at the surface opening. If you cannot see your threads, this product will not work for you.
• If your shift lever is 12mm in diameter, you will need a 12mm-to-14mm adapter. Along with the adapter you will need to get a 14mm shift knob to fit on the extension. We suggest our infamous stash knob or the classic 8-ball knob.
We strongly suggest that you measure the OD (outer diameter) of your shift lever to determine whether or not you will need an adapter. Some vehicles, regardless of year, have varying shift lever ODs.
This shift lever extension will NOT work with early style large diameter (450 mm) Vanagon steering wheels.
